Green Apron Kitchen Homeschool Cooking Curriculum

Weekly Fridays @ 12-1:30 

Elementary ages 6 to 11  | 90 minutes per class

Students prepare approachable foods while practicing safe kitchen habits, testing one science idea each week, and exploring the people, places, and tools connected to food. Each child keeps a chef journal and finishes with an original recipe presentation.

 

Week 1 Kitchen Detectives 9/25

Recipe Rainbow veggie wraps | Skill Safe washing and spreading

 

Cook Spread, arrange, roll and slice.

Science investigation Observe color, texture and plant parts.

History connection Compare today's cooking tools with older hand tools; sketch a tool that makes a task easier.

Week 2 Measurement Lab 10/2

Recipe Apple cinnamon oat cups | Skill Measuring and fractions

 

Cook Measure, mix and chill in cups.

Science investigation Compare dry and liquid measures; predict how oats absorb liquid.

History connection Explore how recipes and measuring cups help cooks share consistent results.

Week 3 The Bread Experiment 10/9

Recipe Skillet flatbread | Skill Mixing dough

 

Science investigation Compare dough before and after cooking; discuss gas, heat and texture.

History connection Locate flatbreads in several food traditions; compare shapes and serving styles without claiming one recipe represents a whole culture.

Week 4 Corn Across the Americas 10/16

Recipe Sweet corn and bean salsa | Skill Rinsing and safe knife use

 

Cook Rinse, dice and toss; serve with tortilla chips.

History connection Learn that Indigenous peoples in the Americas developed maize as a food crop; map where corn is grown today.
