When Food Changed History: The French Revolution : Mondays @ 11:30AM
Homeschool Culinary History Class
Humantities Focused cooking class that dives deep into the French Revolution and how food was changed forever. The oft-repeated story about Marie Antoinette, queen of France at the time, responding to the news that her subjects had no bread with the line, "Let them eat cake" (actually, brioche) is probably not true, but we will discuss the historical foundation of the French Revolution, examine the cost of food/bread and how that led to a political uprising and how the subsequent birth of the Republic of France laid the foundation for the modern restaurant to flourish.
In this class we will use food as a medium of examining history and make:
Week 1: Baguettes
Week 2: Braided Brioiche
Week 3: Crepes
Week 4: Croissants
Week 5: finale bake of French Cake and Chantilly Cream
Classes start 4/7 and run through May 5
